Methodology
Our 10-Step Nottingham Roof Cleaning Process
A repeatable, documented process — the same on a two-bed terrace in Sneinton as on a five-bed detached in West Bridgford. Nothing skipped, nothing improvised.
- Fully insured
- Local Nottingham experts
- Fixed-price quotes
- Soft-wash specialists
- Updated for 2026
Why the process matters more than the price
The single biggest cause of dissatisfaction in UK roof cleaning is inconsistent methodology. One clean uses soft wash; the next uses pressure. One quote includes gutters; the next doesn't. One team fits scaffold; another balances on brittle tiles. That inconsistency is why we publish our process in full: so you can compare quotes against a known standard, not against marketing copy.
The 10-step process, in full
-
1Step 1
Free inspection & drone survey
Every job starts with a physical inspection — ground-level assessment plus drone imagery on any roof over 2 storeys or with restricted access. We photograph tile condition, ridge mortar, flashings, valleys and gutters, and note anything that will affect the clean. No obligation, no upsell pressure.
-
2Step 2
Written fixed-price quote
Within one working day you receive a written quote with a fixed price — no day rates, no 'if it takes longer' clauses. The quote itemises the clean, biocide, gutter clearance and any optional extras (ridge repointing, tile replacement, zinc strips).
-
3Step 3
Job scheduling & pre-visit briefing
Once accepted we book a firm date, confirmed by email 48 hours ahead. You'll receive a pre-visit briefing covering arrival time, water access, parking, plant protection and neighbour notification if terraced.
-
4Step 4
Site setup & protection
On arrival we sheet vulnerable planting, cover garden furniture, protect pathways and mask any nearby windows. Ladders, roof ladders or a MEWP are set up with proper anchoring. A pre-work walk-round photo record is taken.
-
5Step 5
Manual moss removal (top-down)
Working strictly top-down from the ridge, we remove bulk moss using profile-shaped scrapers matched to your tile. No wire brushes, no rotary tools, no high-pressure blasting on tile surfaces. Removed material is contained, not left to load the gutters uncontrollably.
-
6Step 6
Gutter & downpipe clearance
All gutter runs are cleared of dislodged moss, silt and leaf debris. Every downpipe outlet is water-tested. Photos of before/after gutter condition go into your job file so you can see exactly what was there.
-
7Step 7
Soft-wash biocide application
A roof-safe biocide is applied at under 500 psi across the entire roof surface, at the correct dilution for tile type and moss load. The biocide kills spores at the cellular level so growth doesn't return for 3–5 years, not just 12 months.
-
8Step 8
Ridge, flashing & tile check
While access is on site we inspect ridge mortar, chimney flashings and any visibly compromised tiles. Small issues are photographed and quoted; genuinely urgent finds are flagged before we leave the site.
-
9Step 9
Site de-rig & final walk-round
Sheeting is removed, planting checked, pathways cleaned, gutters flushed one final time. We walk the perimeter with you (or via a video call if you're not on site) and confirm you're satisfied before mobilising.
-
10Step 10
Aftercare report & maintenance plan
You receive a written aftercare report — before/after photos, biocide product used, treatment dates, and a maintenance schedule tailored to your property. We diarise a reminder for your next recommended treatment window.
What's non-negotiable
- Soft-wash methodology on any concrete or clay tile — no exceptions
- Physical moss removal before biocide, never chemistry-only
- Gutter clearance included in every roof clean
- Written before/after photo record with every job
- Public liability certificate provided on request before booking
- Fixed pricing — no day-rate creep once the quote is signed
Timing per property
Most Nottingham semis complete in a single day (7–9 hours on site). Larger detached properties and heritage jobs typically run 1.5–2 days. Bungalows are usually a half-day. We quote firm timings on every job so you can plan around us — no vague "sometime next week" scheduling.
What happens if it rains
Light rain doesn't stop soft-wash work — the biocide is designed to bond quickly. Heavy or persistent rainfall does. We watch the Met Office forecast for your postcode 72 hours ahead and re-schedule proactively rather than turning up and turning back. Re-scheduled jobs move to the next available dry window at no additional cost.
